Cogsy vs TrueProfit

TrueProfit answers a bigger question than Cogsy does: what did the store make after ad spend, shipping, fees and product cost. Cogsy has no profit dashboard and no ad data. It looks after one input to that calculation, the cost of each variant, in more detail than a profit app's cost settings.

Choose TrueProfit if

  • You want net profit and a P&L across the whole store.
  • You want ad spend from the major ad platforms and marketing attribution.
  • You want customer lifetime value, a mobile app or a multi-store view.
  • You sell print-on-demand or dropship and want costs synced from those platforms.

Choose Cogsy if

  • Your product costs are the weak point: missing, undated or from several suppliers.
  • You want Shopify's own reports to carry the right cost, not only a third-party dashboard.
  • You sell bundles made of other products.

Using both

TrueProfit reads the cost per item held in Shopify. Keep that figure right with Cogsy, with the costs you choose rolled into it, and TrueProfit reports profit on a number you can trace.

How TrueProfit handles product cost

TrueProfit takes cost per unit from Shopify's cost per item, from a connected print-on-demand or dropshipping platform, or from manual entry. It supports quantity-tier costs for several units of the same product and cost zones by delivery country, with handling fees set per order, per item or per product, and it notifies you when active products have a cost of zero. Its help centre documents two versions of its COGS page. The older articles describe dated cost periods and import and export; a migration notice says the newer page removed them. Check which version your store has.

What TrueProfit does that Cogsy does not

  • Real-time net profit dashboard and P&L report
  • Ad spend sync from six ad platforms and marketing attribution
  • Customer lifetime value reporting
  • Shipping cost rules and carrier/shipping integrations
  • COGS zones by delivery country
  • Cost sync from POD/dropshipping platforms
  • Mobile app and multi-store view

Questions

Is Cogsy an alternative to TrueProfit?
No. TrueProfit is a profit analytics app and Cogsy has no profit dashboard, ad spend or order reports. Cogsy manages the product cost that a profit app starts from, so the two are used together more often than one replaces the other.
Can I use Cogsy and TrueProfit together?
TrueProfit reads the cost per item held in Shopify. Keep that figure right with Cogsy, with the costs you choose rolled into it, and TrueProfit reports profit on a number you can trace.
How much does TrueProfit cost?
From $35 to $200 a month, plus per-order charges above each plan's limit, as shown on its Shopify App Store listing on 8 October 2026. Check the listing for current pricing.
Does TrueProfit keep a history of cost changes?
It depends on which version of its cost settings your store has; its help centre describes both. Cogsy records every cost as a dated row with a source.
