Cogsy vs Profit Calc

Profit Calc is a profit calculator with detailed cost rules: costs by country, by quantity and by date, vendor fees on top, and an alert for products whose cost is zero. It can store the cost used on each order so later changes apply only to new orders. Cogsy does not calculate profit on orders. It keeps the cost record and writes it to Shopify.

Choose Profit Calc if

  • You want profit by order, product and store with ad spend included.
  • Your cost depends on the delivery country or the quantity ordered.
  • You use AliExpress, Printful, Printify or similar and want costs from them.
  • You need VAT, COD or multi-currency handling.

Choose Cogsy if

  • You want the cost fixed in Shopify itself, with a history.
  • You buy from several suppliers and want each price recorded.
  • You sell bundles made of different products.

Using both

Profit Calc reads the cost per item held in Shopify. Keep that figure right with Cogsy, with the costs you choose rolled into it, and Profit Calc reports profit on a number you can trace. Profit Calc's automatic cost sync from Shopify has to be switched on, and it overrides costs saved in Profit Calc.

How Profit Calc handles product cost

Product costs are entered per variant on a Manual COGS page, and Shopify's cost per item can be synced in manually or automatically every 24 hours; the automatic cost sync must be switched on because it overrides saved Manual COGS. Costs can also be set by country and quantity (quantity breaks, which the vendor also recommends for 'bundles'), and by date through a 'COGS by Date' option. A 'Database COGS Sync' setting stores the COGS calculated for each order so later cost changes only apply to new orders. The help center refers to an alert for products whose COGS are 0 and an option to recalculate orders saved with a COGS of 0. A CSV upload sets COGS per order (columns 'Order' and 'Total'), and a CSV template of product costs can be downloaded from the manual COGS CSV page.

What Profit Calc does that Cogsy does not

  • Profit dashboards and P&L with ad spend from seven ad platforms
  • COGS rules by shipping country and order quantity
  • Supplier/fulfilment integrations (AliExpress, Printful, Printify, CJ Dropshipping, ShipHero, ShipBob, Shippo, Gelato)
  • Multi-currency conversion with historical FX rates
  • VAT and COD handling
  • Order-level and product-level profit reports

Questions

Is Cogsy an alternative to Profit Calc?
No. Profit Calc is a profit analytics app and Cogsy has no profit dashboard, ad spend or order reports. Cogsy manages the product cost that a profit app starts from, so the two are used together more often than one replaces the other.
Can I use Cogsy and Profit Calc together?
Profit Calc reads the cost per item held in Shopify. Keep that figure right with Cogsy, with the costs you choose rolled into it, and Profit Calc reports profit on a number you can trace. Profit Calc's automatic cost sync from Shopify has to be switched on, and it overrides costs saved in Profit Calc.
How much does Profit Calc cost?
From $39 a month, as shown on its Shopify App Store listing on 8 October 2026. Check the listing for current pricing.
Does Profit Calc keep a history of cost changes?
Yes, in its own way. Profit Calc's listing or help pages describe costs with dates or a cost history. Cogsy records every cost as a dated row with a source, and a row is never edited or deleted.
