Cogsy vs Landed Cost Receiving

Landed Cost Receiving does the allocation job: when a transfer shipment is received in Shopify, you enter the freight, duty and fees, it spreads them by value, quantity or weight and writes a weighted-average cost per item, with undo. Cogsy does not allocate. It records per-unit costs by kind, date and supplier, including selling costs, and costs bundles.

Choose Landed Cost Receiving if

  • You want freight and duty spread across each shipment for you.
  • You want a weighted-average cost recalculated when stock arrives.
  • You receive stock through Shopify's transfers.

Choose Cogsy if

  • You want freight, duty and packaging visible as separate lines per variant.
  • You want fulfilment and payment fees in the margin too.
  • You compare suppliers, or sell bundles.

Using both

Landed Cost Receiving writes a new cost per item when stock arrives. Cogsy records that figure when it changes, as a cost from Shopify, and adds the selling costs on top for a margin per variant.

About Landed Cost Receiving

A receiving-side costing app: when a transfer shipment is received in Shopify, the merchant enters invoice extras such as freight, duty, brokerage and insurance and the app spreads them across the received lines. After a preview it writes a new weighted-average cost per item to Shopify and logs the change.

How Landed Cost Receiving handles product cost

The costing method is weighted average: the vendor describes the new unit cost as current cost times prior on-hand units plus the landed total, divided by the combined units. Extras are allocated per shipment by value, quantity or weight, previewed, and only written to each variant's Cost per item when the merchant confirms. Every write is recorded in a cost-history ledger that can be undone per batch and exported to CSV. The vendor's launch post says Shopify's public API does not expose purchase orders and shipments carry no cost fields, so extra costs are entered manually in the app. FIFO is not mentioned.

What Landed Cost Receiving does that Cogsy does not

  • Allocates freight, duty and fees across a received shipment by value, quantity or weight
  • Weighted-average cost recalculated against on-hand units at receipt
  • Picks up Shopify's native received transfer shipments automatically

Questions

Is Cogsy an alternative to Landed Cost Receiving?
No. Landed Cost Receiving handles purchasing and stock, which Cogsy does not. Cogsy is an alternative only if what you need is the cost record and not an inventory system.
Can I use Cogsy and Landed Cost Receiving together?
Landed Cost Receiving writes a new cost per item when stock arrives. Cogsy records that figure when it changes, as a cost from Shopify, and adds the selling costs on top for a margin per variant.
How much does Landed Cost Receiving cost?
$29 a month or $290 a year, as shown on its Shopify App Store listing on 8 October 2026. Check the listing for current pricing.
Does Landed Cost Receiving keep a history of cost changes?
Yes, in its own way. A ledger of the costs it has written. Cogsy records every cost as a dated row with a source, and a row is never edited or deleted.
